This beautiful butterfly wins the prize for the most color patterns of any butterfly. On the dark brown wings there may be orange, cream, or white bands or spots. The males and females are very similar with the females only being a bit larger with wingspans typically varying from 1 ½ -2 inches. The males keep busy throughout the day flying around host plants or hill-topping in search of females. The host plants are members of the sunflower family and include many wildflowers common to open areas. This lovely Bordered Patch butterfly is a constant reminder that beauty can be seen anew in every individual that visits your butterfly gardens.
