A Sign from Heaven
(Submitted by Jennifer in Indiana)

My mother died of pancreatic cancer one year ago today (March 5). She battled with the disease for 18 months before it took her.

She was an extremely religious and spiritual person. We all knew she was going to Heaven. During those 18 months, we had the gift of long conversations, sharing, laughing and crying.

I asked her, "Mom, when you are gone, how will I know that you are in Heaven with dad and the boys?" (three of my brothers died of CF).

She said, "Every time you see a Monarch Butterfly, that's my sign to you that I am OK."

She died on March 5th. The funeral was March 9th. The weather in Northern Indiana is still very cold at that time of the year.

A few days later, I was at home and I opened the blinds to get some light in to the dining room. The tree outside of the window was COMPLETELY COVERED with Monarch Butterflies. I thought I was going crazy so I asked my boyfriend to come and see what I was seeing. It was real. They were there.

I will never forget that day as long as I live. Writing my story helps me with my grief on this one year anniversary of my mom's passing.

Every now and then, a random Monarch Butterfly will make its presence known to me in an odd and unusual way. I just smile.

May God Bless You.
