New Jersey Tea (Ceanothus americanus)

This deciduous shrub is native to North America. It has lovely green foliage and grows upright to a maximum of 3 feet tall. The clusters of white flowers bloom in the spring and are close to 2 inches long on the ends of the branches. During the American Revolutionary War, the leaves from this shrub were dried and used as a substitute for making tea, although the leaves do not contain any caffeine. This is a wonderful small shrub to add to gardens or borders around your home.
